Coordinated removal and reinstatement for a 100 mm roof raise

Roof-improvement programme

Project brief

Principal contractor Stoic Roofing engaged the Oxyplumb Commercial team to support its roof-improvement project at Faringdon Community College. The classroom roofs were raised by approximately 100 mm to improve insulation, while an existing 100 mm low-carbon steel gas main ran across the roof.

Phased work sequence

  1. The team carried out a controlled gas-to-air purge, decommissioned the existing main and removed it so Stoic Roofing could raise and refurbish the roof.
  2. The team returned within Stoic Roofing’s agreed programme and installed a new 108 mm stainless-steel press-fit gas main.
  3. The replacement main was supported on rubber feet to protect the finished felt roof. A controlled air-to-gas purge, testing and handover then completed the work.

Programme and handover

The work was coordinated during the summer-holiday period, with no school downtime. The college’s heating and hot-water systems were ready before pupils returned, and the tested installation was handed back to Stoic Roofing as part of its completed project.
