Restoring hot water before pupils returned

Burford Boarding School contacted the Oxyplumb Commercial team after its existing Lochinvar water heater failed. A site visit and investigation identified a split water chamber, which meant the unit needed to be replaced before boarding pupils returned.

The complete project was turned around within 10 days of the initial enquiry, with the replacement installation completed in one day.

Lochinvar replacement and careful reuse

The failed unit was removed and replaced with a new Lochinvar LGC285-560 commercial water heater, converted for LPG. Suitable existing pipework was retained, and the existing flue was reused only after a full integrity test confirmed that it remained safe and serviceable.

Reusing the sound flue avoided unnecessary replacement work and helped reduce the client’s project cost.

Return-pump replacement and commissioning

During commissioning, the team identified that the hot-water return pump was also faulty and replaced it for the school. The water heater was then fully commissioned, and the hot-water outlets were checked to confirm that the required temperatures were being achieved for Legionella control.

Clean handover

The school received a full handover pack. The failed heater, packaging and installation waste were removed, and the plant area was left clean and tidy with hot water restored before the children returned.
